So why are plants important?
Without plants, life on earth would not exist as they keep all other life forms alive. This is because plants are the only creatures that have the ability to make their own food (Schaffner, 2010). Animal and humans, who cannot make their own food, rely on plants to eat!
The animals that give us meat, such as chickens and cows, eat grass, oats, corn, and some other plants.
Without plants, we wouldn’t be breathing right now! As plants produce food, they make oxygen gas. This is in the air around us and is the gas that fuels our cells and keeps humans and animals alive (Schwartz, DeBuhr, Addelson, 2005). All of the oxygen available for living things comes from plants.
